The wife and I are planning a weekend trip of walleye fishing out of Dunkirk marina. My question is, how far will we have to go to get into good walleye fishing waters. We only have a 14ft Lund deep v. Just don’t want to get caught in bad weather.   Thanks

With a 14ft Lund you are going to have to pick your days.  Erie kicks up quickly and even a moderate breeze is a concern.  Fishing is available right in front of the harbor and your travel distance is less than a mile.  It may be a good idea to hire one of the guides for a four hour trip.  Good luck.

Agreed...I used to fish out of a 16ft deep V tiller and had to pick my days, more often than not I got chased off or just too plain uncomfortable. If making a trip I'd opt for a charter rather than hope for safe water on a 14ft'er.

Like everyone else said, you really have to pick your days. Not sure how far you have to travel. I fish out of a 16 ft tiller but have off all summer and live 20 minutes from the lake so when it's nice we fish and when its not we stay home.

Another option with a 14 ft boat would be looking for perch.  Good place to look is right off Dunkirk harbor 40-50 fow.  Short run if you have to get off the lake.  Even at that really need to pick the right day with that size boat.
