My dad worked on the South Buffalo RR for 47 years, he retired as an engineer. Yeah, it's hard to beat this retirement thing! 7 yrs. for me after 40 yrs. working, & I don't miss it!
I thought I was entered, I have been on here all week, with some replys & even started a new topic (SP).. And now I see I only have 1 entry. I guess I got it after I watched the video on how to enter.
I think we have 8 launches on Erie & I believe Ontario has 30+ but they do have a longer shore line. I think there should be a launch at Evangola St. & Lake Erie parks. Every thing is there except a launch! Road ,parking, lights, restrooms.
Shinintimes, I don't think that is a bad question. I wonder that myself! I am sure it is in some one's pocket. One has to wonder what happened to all their launch money & the money they got from the state & fed. gov't. already?? As far as digging it by hand I don't even know if that is feasible at all. I was sort of kidding when I wrote it , but maybe if there were enough people it could be done? I would think for every shovel full taken out 2 would come back in. Maybe the state would take it over with some of Cuomo's Buffalo Billion!
Sturgeon Point (SP) 2017
From what I hear the sand bar across the opening of SP(only about a3 ft. opening) is pretty much closed off due to the sand. With the town of Evans being bankrupt, SP will most likely not be open very early if at all in the spring of 2017 having no $$$ to dredge it out. I am thinking we early perch guys may have to get on the bar & dig it out ourselves! We will have to all get together with our shovels on a day & dig us a 4-6 ft. wide trench across the bar! Any thoughts?
JMO, but when you think about it, we are living near the best 2 lakes in the country. Lake Ontario for trout & salmon , lake Erie for walleye, perch and bass. Erie also has some great lake trout but most don't fish for them.
We fished from SP to Wanaka in 30-40 fow on Friday & didn't get an eye. We did get 3 nice bass. I am ready for the day bite to start, may have to make a trip to Dunkirk! thanks for the info.
We normally run our sticks & spoons 75-100' behind the riggers. We also do the 3 way thing with the spoon above a diver stick bait. We do this same thing with jets off the big boards & off dipseys. with 6-8 ft. leaders.
Off the riggers we some times use a rubber band on the line then into the release, you can see the lightest fish hit it. like white bass or small perch the rod tip will twitch.
I think most times everyone in the tight groups tend to know each other. It's when the stranger tries to sneak in when people get upset. But it is fun to watch & hear at times. lol
All on minnows, I used a perch rig (3 hooks) & my buddy used a small perch colored jigging spoon with a minnow. We didn't catch our 1st fish until 12:30 off evengola wall after we sat in the 2 groups & watched others get them. With all those boats I now remember why retired people fish during the week! lol
