Nice report Puking Dog. Good to see some fish are biting in this area. It is a lot simpler fishing with sticks (and spoons) and fewer junk fish, but some of the limit catches are being reported taken on harnesses. I wonder if that would have turned them on?
Just got back from fishing out of Barcelona this afternoon with my daughter. We fished from 3:30 until dark. Mainly in 58 to 65 fow and west of the launch. Landed 7 eyes between us (17 to 25 inches). Some nice healthy fish. All on harnesses off dipsys. Also landed a few sheeps. Trolled west and found the red roof landmark. Was marking eyes but they didn't start to bite until close to 7 pm. Then it was pretty consistent heading back with the wind at our backs. Lost a few more on the fight up as well. Would have preferred to bottom bounce with rod in hand but it wasn't blowing hard enough to create enough speed so we trolled with our 2 dipsy rods.
Big thank you to CrestCom21. First time out of Barcelona launch. Was debating to launch from Sturgeon and decided to give it a try. Will post a picture later. Getting late and time to filet!
I checked my Navionics Boating mobile app on my phone and the state line is on it. It is also on my chart plotter Navionics chip that I use in my Lowrance Hook 5 unit.
If you look at a map there is a point that goes out a little ways after crossing into PA. This is where Twentymile creek goes into the lake. A little farther west there is a Marina called North east marina. These are a couple landmarks but I have never been there.
Fished out of the Catt today. 1 to 8 pm. Caught 2 eyes, 21" and a short, 1 sheep. Eye came on fire tiger harness in 73 fow. Never found consistent marks. Beautiful day to be on the water though.
I have had this happen with lower cost / lower quality lines that are used on some harnesses. I think it is worth seeking out and paying a little more for harnesses that use quality line. Many brands will advertise the pound test and type of line they use as a selling point.
Thanks for the report J.S. This will help in deciding where we go. Maybe out of the Catt.
I fished out of Sturgeon last year and had some similar outings.
Thinking of heading out of the Catt on Thursday afternoon. Bouy is showing water temp at 68 degrees now. Looks like some cooler air is coming from the north. Any updates prior from today and tomorrow would be great. Thanks guys.
Hi Gary, just a note that these bigger catches came near the western part of ny waters / PA line. Not from Buffalo area. Hopefully they're headed this way as some reports are indicating. The fact that this is the Buffalo walleye report thread had me going until they clarified location.
From personal experience it has produced my 3 best walleye (28, 28.5, 29 inches)... maybe a coincidence but there is no motor noise... stealthy fishing.
Here is the current record and story on it...
