  1. That's a good question mike... over the last 6 years that I have been a member it has had some slow periods and seems to pick up as August and September arrive. There have been a few people I have noticed who like to quickly criticize others for sharing a their good reports or asking for help on where or how. That can suppress posting. I have enjoyed this forum and the LOU forum and have learned a lot about walleye fishing on here from some great people and fishermen. This year I have only been able to get out once so far in July due to family weddings. I shared my report. Hopefully this is just a slow stretch and things will pick up again. I think that the tournaments also tend to quiet this forum down and keep people from sharing especially in July. This year I set up separate threads for the major launch port areas and it seems that this old thread from last year has become the most active one recently. I will be getting out in August and September and look forward to posting, sharing and reading reports from others. Good luck!
  2. Nice work Greg. Nothing more fun than rod in hand bottom bouncing in an active bite in my opinion. You feel them take it and set the hook!
  3. Thanks for sharing your experience. I wouldn't think to do that. Good for deeper fish.
  4. Sounds like a great day! Thanks for sharing. Were the weights you added in your leader section or snap weights on the leadcore. Thanks.
  5. Good job J. Sparrow! Also made the first trip of the season with a friend today. We caught 3 eyes (24, 25, 25 inches), a white bass, yellow perch and a number of sheephead. Went out toward the line west of Point Abino. Got all fish rod in hand on harnesses. Fished from 3:30 pm till dark.
  6. Thanks for sharing. Did you mark many and they just weren't feeding?
  7. Hope the fishing sets up nice around Sturgeon this season. Should start hearing about the schools moving East pretty soon.
  8. Starting a thread for this season. Good luck to all.
  9. Starting a thread for this season. Good luck to all.
  10. Merry Christmas to all and a prosperous walleye new year! Looking forward to some quality ice-fishing!
  11. Awesome. Thanks for sharing.
  12. Nice job tds840. Deepest we tried today out of Sturgeon was about 72 feet. Guess they were deeper!
  13. Fished out of Sturgeon Point today. 1 pm till 6:30. Not many marks. Bottom bounced with rod in hand at various depths with harnesses. Ended up with 1 walleye 1 smallmouth and 2 jumbo perch. Nice day out except for wind direction. My last outing on Erie for this season. Time to start hunting.
  14. Wow... tough eye day. Thanks for posting.
  15. You bet Joe. Looking to go after it slows mid morning.
  16. Planning on heading out tomorrow... thanks Jimdski for your thoughts. Might try out of Sturgeon and see what turns up.
  17. What does everyone think.. Will the walleye be around next week after this windy weekend?
  18. Good luck on the Elk hunt Cisco.
  19. The carts come on and in the packaging when I bought them but I'm sure they are available online.
  20. That's great. Thanks for sharing. I have used heavy bouncers on St. Lawrence River for eyes. Maybe I will try it on Erie sometime. Dipsies are less weight and resistance when fighting a fish and have the dive depth charts. I think the water temp was funny on Friday the more I hear.
  21. Thanks for the information Cisco. I understand now. Interesting you troll with bouncers in deep water... how heavy are the ones you use? I drift with them, rod in hand, 1.5 to 3 oz. When the wind dies I switch to trolling. Nice job gbill512. Glad you found them. I hope the lake normalizes for some good fishing this month.
  22. Hi Cisco and J. Sparrow.... curious what time you fished on Friday? We did the same thing bouncing up high with the fish in that 40 to 55 foot range. I could only entice one to hit between 10:30 and noon so we went to trolling. Thanks.
  23. Tough day for me and a buddy today... Started fishing rod in hand with bouncers and harnesses from 10:30 until about noon. Picked up one 22 incher. Switched over to trolling with 2 dipsy rods for rest of day (5:30 pm). Picked up 3 more eyes. 16", 19" and a 23" all on harnesses. Bite died for us around 1 pm. Saw some nets moving but not a lot. Guessing the trolling bite was better earlier. Should have started out trolling. Most boats gone by 2 pm or so? Great day to be out in spite of the light box for us. Guy at the ramp said many boats did well.
