  1. Steelie, no I didn't, the reason being, I needed to replace the lower shift cable on my I/O so I pulled the lower unit and got the old cable out, I pulled the inner wire out first then I shoved weed wacker line up to the top so when I put new cable in it follows the rout of the old cable, done this on other boats and I worked flawless!! Well I put the new outer cable in this cable is so stiff it wouldn't follow the line. I called our local marina, and he told me the newer cables are made heavier and are a bitch to work with. Well I can see that what's the secret there is none, keep at till you get it. To make a long story short I had to admit defeat and called them to see if the could possibly get it. My boat is the modle 888 which means there's no designated rout for the cable, other than the less turns the better, and I had it that way but I couldn't get the cable to spin, the nut on the cable is made fast to the cable so I have to spin the whole cable to screw it into the bell housing of the out drive. I had to dissemble the risers on the inside and pull the power steering so "I" could spin the cable. I took the boat home to do all this then I took it back to the marinia, it took three guys 2 1/2hrs to get it in right, they also said they never had one that was this difficult!! In a way I was glad I was wondering if I was loosing my mind. Now I have to put all this stuff back together. I hope to have it together for the week after the opening day of walleye season in NY. and I didn't want to book anything till I know for sure it's all ok. We will see what happens. I hope to have it done buy the beginning of next week. Who would of ever thought putting a cable in would be this stubborn. For me that's par for the case. I'm still planning on coming out, we will see its looking like in June for sure.
  2. Damn man, that was a brute good luck to ya the rest of the season, I'll be out the second week in June!!!
  3. Hell YA, glad to see ya on the other great site. Your title is quite interesting, I hope your not like my cousin, once the boat starts the sideways he's just that "puking dog" up in the front down in the front he can handle, the side to side action he just can't do it!!
  4. Hey Steelie, I bet that ruined your day!! lol That's what's cool about the eastern end you never know what your gonna bring up!! Congrats to your outing, I hope things start to set up!! Not to be nosy, how big was your eye??
  5. That's a good start, if the smallies are starting and the Browns, the eyes aren't far behind. At least you got in the water. Tight lines to you and others. Thanks for the post!!
  6. DJ this weekend I hope is the official kick off for the 2016 season!!! It's supposed to hit 70* here in PA. What's the forecast for LakeO region? or the Lake Erie areas on the eastern basin.
  7. Yea, Muskybob has recipe something like this on LOU, his was good, now if I only had a few fillets of walleyes I'd give this a whirl, just the ingredients alone sound good. I'm writing the recipe down till the first Saturday in May if I get lucky. The kids will like them with that cayenne pepper. They like that hots stuff, I'll have to double the pepper for their fillets. Thanks for sharing PAP
  8. Are these rods all trolling rods or downrigger rods?, what are the 9'6ers dipsy diver rods or just trolling? Do they break bown, and is shipping a possibility?? Thanks PAP.
  9. We ran the flat fish kinda the same look, for salmon in the fall of the year with great success, I have some I'm going to try on LakeO. That's about Mark, 411 runs anymore, before he used Rapala lures and reef runners, must be a big check in the mail from Yakima!!!
  10. Well I thought it was going to be this weekend, but that's not going to happen, I got the lower shift cable through the transom and as strait as possible and I cannot turn the cable to get it started in the threads of the housing, I don't know how hard to pull on the ratchet? I don't want to ruin a $80 cable. I admit defeat, and called Henry at Beltzville Marine, he told me Monday!! I was happy with that. What's 3 more days!! Will report next week, there're saying in the 70's this week, looks like I'll mis the browns, but I'll be on deck for the opener of eye season.
  11. Thanks Chad, I truly believe this sight will explode. Just wait till the first Saturday in May!!!
  12. Problem child, does your primer bulb when you squeeze it get hard. I've had those primer bulbs go bad. They wouldn't keep the pressure up, they wouldn't get hard they wouldn't pump up and get hard you could squeeze them all day and they just wouldn't pump up hard, just a thought, before you go buying a tank and have the same issues? PAP
  13. I just love reading your posts Capt Juls, brings back many memories for me and those times I spent with my dad who's no longer with us. Reading your post about the wind made me think of something maybe not many LakeO guys are familiar with and that is the wind and its general rule of thumb, LakeE is right opposite of LakeO as far as the wind goes. I remember the wind was usually blowing good in the morning with 3FTers or more in the morning, I remember leaving Turtle Creek and only the 20FT or better went out, our cabin sat right where the brake wall ended and you could hear the big V8's just cruise out, and the diehards raised the lower unit to plow there way out till they hit the 20ft of water then the waves weren't as bad. LakeO general rule of thumb is flat maybe 1-2fters and as the day goes by the waves get bigger, just the opposite of Erie rough in the Morn, then lay down in the afternoon then kick back up in the evening. This was the general rule of thumb like I said and who knows maybe it has changed over the last 20 years. Also Lake Erie bait shops were the only place I know where you could buy 4oz bottom bouncers which you needed to stay on the bottom when drifting worm harnesses. Those were the good O'L Days, and spending money at the HAPPY HOOKER, that place I think has as every Michigan stinger spoon ever made,. Tight lines to you and your clients. Ps. Lake Erie out of Port Clinton is the only place I took a charter we left the dock at 6:am and was back by 12 noon with a 6 man ticket and we were sorting through them also not keeping the bigger feamales. That was our decision, and he respected that, and we were rewarded for that also. Keep the posts coming!!!!
  14. Mine was going to be this weekend, but I doubt that's going to happen unless a miracle happens, this lower shift cable is kicking my A$$ big time. I think I have in conquered, if so kick off will be this weekend. I hope. Whenare you guys planning the get the bottom wet??
  15. Holy crap Paul you might have to by one of those DR wood chippers and mount it on the swim platform, Fman930 ain't kidding they are almost as bad as gobies, just not as ugly LOL you could get 1 mean chum slick going though!!! Just had to bust ya buddy, we ate them out of LakeO I'm not all together there but I'm not glowing green yet,
  16. Someone in the camp last year said there good eating, we kept like 10" on up. I not a fish eater but I love perch and believe it or not they were good also I was surprised. When my dad was still with us we kept a few smallies that we caught out around the sunken island. Filleted those and cut em into chunks, beerbatter I was like man these are good. So ya we keep a few!!
  17. I'm not from the Erie end of town. But welcome to the site. I'm sure someone will be able to answer your question!!!
  18. Good morning King Slammin, 20 years ago my dad and I weren't doing so well out of the BRB, in Ontario, we came up with this same theory, they "walleyes" really weren't hitting the harnesses just nipping the tail end of the worm, and the were just bumping spoons. So we sat in the boat both of us knowing we need to feed them both at the same time, but how? So we decided to take 30 pound mono and make a 2 hook harness and use a swivele to attach the harness. Then we picked LOL, the Michigan Stinger spoon Kevorkian and give it a go. We ran it along the boat and at 2.2 it wasn't spinning out!! So we ran it with sticks and it worked great it was doing better then the sticks, but they really didn't want sticks we just ran them to Imamate a school of minnows. We should of patented it, we really didn't think people would believe us so we kept it under our hat, now DreamWeaver put a wire harness with a #10 triple hook on the end. Yes they work and are ment to run among your sticks as you can pull them at higher speeds. They don't work well in water current, meaning River fishing. I have a lot of success with them, but they have there time and place. I always run them either together or with sticks. I believe they work better at a faster pace. I ran them with harnesses and ever time we made a turn so the outside one went faster, bang we had one on the burner, so that told use they need to be trolled faster. Hope this helps, maybe more seasoned Erie guys will chime in to give you a definite YA/NAA PAP.
  19. How about it, tomorrow I'm going to twist the old girl over!!! Nothing makes you shake in your shoes more, than a big V8 bellowing in your ears
  20. Hey Charles, that's great you will be able to keep the boys occupied pretty well, with the area you live/fish in! Some of the best fishing in my life was when we fished the western basin!!! We went out of Turtle Creek, and fished our way out to the cans A B C D , then out to sister and west sister. When possible post some picks. Best of luck and tight lines to your boys
  21. Welcome Tina, glad you made the decision to come aboard the LEU site, there are a lot of ladies in the sport of fishing, my wife, my twin daughters even Charter Captians, which I think is great, it's making fishing a family event, we need more family time in our lives!! I always post best of luck to the fisherman/ ladies!!
  22. How about it more action over now than LOU. That's about to change this has been a weird spring, who would of ever thought that old man winter would hold out this long. With temps in the 60's forecasted for the end of this week will put a lot more guys out there after the Browns, and this board will explode in 2-3 weeks when the eye season opens on LakeO. To kick off a new board in mid winter I think the site has made leaps and bounds for its self. Congrats to Chad and all the members that we have already!! The games have yet to start!!! Think spring and 50* water temps.
  23. Man you never quit amazing me those spoons are awesome!!! Kind of like those $20 lures that are supposed to imitate a school of minnows, man I can't wait till your sight is complete, I'll be dropping a few Ben Franklins for sure
  24. Nice report Juls, very down to the specifics as always from you. If My memory serves me right I belonged to a site that's all about the 3 basins of Erie, we stayed at lamderJacks. Did he ever sell that place, he sent me a letter about 2-3 years ago that he still had lodging but nothing about the marinea. I really liked the Port Clinton area, we made the run up to the Canadian-US line and drifted harneses, and trolled stinger spoons. Great to hear from ya again!!! Good luck & tight lines to your clients!! pap!!
  25. That's pretty cool title, Snap Swivel, l like it!!! Welcome to the site. I can't wait till the guys get out and start posting pics. of eyes I like to see the fish. Pumps me up big time. Glad you joined!!! PAP
