I think most of the participants on this thread and forum welcome the discussion and sharing of helpful information. What was getting out of control in my opinion were the escalating negative exchanges. It feels better today 😊.

I GOT A LOT OF GREAT LAKE ERIE INFORMATION TODAY FROM THE HEAD FISH BIOLOGIST FOR NYS PERTAINING TO WALLEYES AND PERCH IN LAKE ERIE, QUOTAS, POPULATIONS, BAIT, MORTALITY, FISHING SUCCESS, # OF FISHERMAN FISHING ETC. HOWEVER STILLWATER AND HIS COHORT DCRA HAVE MANDATED THIS SITE IS ONLY FOR REPORTS THAT PERTAIN TO CATCHING FISH. I WILL OBEY AND RELAX. LOL

Anyways,,,, the fishing out of the Catt is still on fire. I went to 77 FOW and went east. Limited out by the time I hit 73 FOW. 4 color and 7 color caught fish and All dipsys caught fish as did the riggers set at 45’ and 63’ down. All color worm harnesses worked.

Before this thread there were reporting threads for each major port. Worked fine either way. Relax.

I agree with Dcra... the title of this particular thread is "Walleye Reports Eastern Basin 2025". Let's focus on fishing reports.

Fishing can be great while the population is in decline? There’s still perch out there. I don’t get how you don’t understand that. Yeah there’s a lot of bait but you don’t think perch and eyes are competing for it? You haven’t really proven anything I’ve said untrue. Can you prove how the perch population is not in decline?

WALLEYES DON'T FLEAS UNLESS THEIR SMALL. ALL I AM SAYING IS YOU SAID THE PERCH FISHING WAS FANTASTIC AS IT WAS. IT CAN'T BE FANTASTIC UNLESS THERE'S A HEALTH POPULATION. WALLEYES DON'T EAT 10 T0 12 INCH PERCH. SO DON'T LOSE ANY SLEEP OVER IT. THERE ARE MANY FOOD SOURCES IN ERIE; UNLESS YOUR ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL OR BLIND OR HAVE NO ELECTRONICS THERE TONS CLOUDS OF BAIT IN THE LAKE ERIE RIGHT NOW; IT'S BEEN THAT WAY FOR THE LAST 13 YEARS. IT'S ALWAYS BEEN THAT WAY EXCEPT WHEN IT WAS SUPER POLLUTED. GOOD NIGHT BRO.

Perch declines are a combination of a lot of contributing factors, and the walleye boom might just be a reasult of that. Pure fact tho is the perch have been in a steady decline for some years now. You can’t dispute that

I would not say at all whatsoever they are feeding on perch, it’s more about competing for food sources. The perch late summer and early fall (relatively new) are now found suspended and spitting up fleas which was almost unheard of years ago

THERE ARE OTHER FOOD SOURCES FOR WALLEYES TO EAT BESIDES PERCH THAT WEREN'T AVAILABLE BEFORE LIKE GOBIES, WHITE PERCH MINNOWS. I HAVE FOUND VERY FEW YELLOW PERCH RELATIVELY SPEAKING IN THE HUNDREDS OF WALLEYES I HAVE CLEANED.

At the end of the day the survival rates of these fish by anyone is speculation, studies or not there are still flaws. Just like when they said the best walleye spawns were when the lake completely froze over, but the past several years proved that to be incorrect

You’ve been fishing Eire 60 years you’ve already witnessed it. Also Ohio has dropped their perch limits for certain zones for Lake Erie. With stellar walleye, bass, steelhead, and laker fishing something has to suffer, the perch numbers.

It’s not about catching so many fish, we may just have to disagree here. Just because I’m 27 doesn’t mean I haven’t spent countless hours out there or have done my research. I do agree some fish will suffer delayed mortality but the rate of successful releases is higher than expected and catch and release can be successful

It’s all one lake and one cycle. The walleye population will drop and the perch numbers will rise. The past repeats its self

I AM ONLY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS STATE AND ERIE THE REST DON'T APPLY UNLESS THEY ARE ERIE STATES. THE CANADIANS ARE ALLOWED NET ABOUT 4 TONS OF PERCH EVER YEAR. I'LL ASK ABOUT THAT TOO. 2013 TO 2015 THAT ANCIENT HISTORY WHEN IT COMES TO DATA!

THAT NOT WHAT I JUST GOOGLED DUDE PLUS WHAT I GOOGLED WAS SPECIFIC TO WALLEYES. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH I DID AND I WILL TALK TO THE HEAD BIOLOGIST FOR ALL NYS L ERIE ON MONDAY!! YOUR NUTS BESIDES I'VE BEEN FISHING ERIE FOR OVER 60 YEARS ON THE EAST END. 90% OF THE EYES WE CATCH ARE WITH 5 TIO 20 FT OF THE BOTTOM THE DEEPER WE GO THE MORE LIKELY THEY ARE TO BE SUSPENDED BUT RARELY IN TOP SECTION OF THE WATER COLUMN. I HAVE 4 OTHER BUDDIES WITH THEIR OWN BOATS THAT WOULD CONCUR. IN THE LAST TWO YEARS I HAVE LIMITED 2 MAN LIMIT 16 OF 17 TIMES. I MUST BE FINDING THE FISH AND DOING SOMETHING RIGHT. I RARELY IF EVER SET LINES IN THE UPPER PART OF THE WATER COLUMN BECAUSE I DON'T SEE FISH THERE!!!

2013-2015 were record highs for perch caught per angling trips. Those years also bolstered more anglers targeting perch then walleye even thru the months of July and August. Fish numbers can be down but the fishing still be good. Limits are getting lowered for perch in other states
