It’s not about catching so many fish, we may just have to disagree here. Just because I’m 27 doesn’t mean I haven’t spent countless hours out there or have done my research. I do agree some fish will suffer delayed mortality but the rate of successful releases is higher than expected and catch and release can be successful

THAT NOT WHAT I JUST GOOGLED DUDE PLUS WHAT I GOOGLED WAS SPECIFIC TO WALLEYES. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH I DID AND I WILL TALK TO THE HEAD BIOLOGIST FOR ALL NYS L ERIE ON MONDAY!! YOUR NUTS BESIDES I'VE BEEN FISHING ERIE FOR OVER 60 YEARS ON THE EAST END. 90% OF THE EYES WE CATCH ARE WITH 5 TIO 20 FT OF THE BOTTOM THE DEEPER WE GO THE MORE LIKELY THEY ARE TO BE SUSPENDED BUT RARELY IN TOP SECTION OF THE WATER COLUMN. I HAVE 4 OTHER BUDDIES WITH THEIR OWN BOATS THAT WOULD CONCUR. IN THE LAST TWO YEARS I HAVE LIMITED 2 MAN LIMIT 16 OF 17 TIMES. I MUST BE FINDING THE FISH AND DOING SOMETHING RIGHT. I RARELY IF EVER SET LINES IN THE UPPER PART OF THE WATER COLUMN BECAUSE I DON'T SEE FISH THERE!!! -

I don’t understand your logic, could you tell us what depth in your opinion is safe for catch and release fishing? There’s a lot of studies that have been done on deep water fishing that include transporting fish miles away from the catch site, how is that a real life situation. studies are coming out rapidly supporting the survival rate of deep caught fish. Most of the eyes are caught in the top section of the water Column which would suffer little to none pressure change

I JUST GOOGLE IT THE MORTALITY RATE FROM BAROTRAUMA FOR WALLEYES. FOR ALL YOU SMART GUYS INFORMATION; IT'S 35 TO 50%. GOOGLE IT YOURSELF AND BECOME EDUCATED SO YOU CAN STOP BEING DECK DOCTORS OF THE SEA.. "THEY SWAM AWAY SO THEY'RE ALL GOOD" REALLY THAT'S REAL SCIENTIFIC METHODOLOGY, YEAH OK!! SOME ARE SOME AREN'T. BUT OF COURSE YOU ALL DO A PERFECT RELEASE NO MATTER WHAT THE DEPTH AND OTHER FACTORS 100% OF THE TIME. OK SURE. LOL -

THE KEY BUT LOTS OF PEOPLE DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT KIND OF KEYS. IT'S ONE THING TO INEVERTANTLY GUT HOOK A FISH OR CATCH A NON TARGETED SPECIES, IT'S ANOTHER TO HAVE YOUR LIMIT IN THE BOAT AND KEEP FISHING FOR WHAT PURPOSE WHAT DOES IT PROVE OR ACCOMPLISH???. I GUESS YOU DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF KEY AS YOU KEEP TRYING TO JUSTIFY IT. WHEN BRINGING UP EYES FROM THE DEEP MOST OF THEM GET THE BAROMETRIC BENDS AND EVEN IF THEY SWIM DOWN A LOT OF THEM DIE LATER. DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY WALLEYE EGGS IT TAKES TO PRODUCE ONE LEGAL WALLEYE? YES THERE'S AN ABUNDANCE OF EYES IN ERIE, I'VE SEEN IT WHEN THEIR WASN'T AND THE GOOD LORD SAID WE SHOULD BE GOOD STEWARDS. TO EACH HIS OWN AS I SAID IT'S NOT AGAINST THE LAW. -
And catch and release fishing doesn’t? Gut hooked fished, taking countless pictures of fish, poor handling. What about the eyes, sheephead and bass caught while early season perch fishing. There will always be mortality related to any fishing. The key is to be smart about what you should keep and what has an actual chance at survival post release

First trip of the year.. fished seven days out of Barcelona. Took our golf clubs along just in case, but the weather cooperated and we got out every day. Fishing was unreal! I could give details on depths and lures but it really doesn’t matter. Had two man limits in a few hours each day. Only ran four rods so we could catch our breath! Back home for the weekend then back out there next week! Good Fishing, Sluggo -
Went off the Catt today & headed north to 77 fow', slow ride out. Trolled south with the waves. 2 man limit in 2 1/2 hours, all on purple cisco & lime green harnesses. Hot action between the riggers and dipsys. When we were breaking down, we were dragging 2 & released them. Things are back to normal after the upturn.
