  1. Got out with a buddy on his boat out of the Catt on sunday 5/27 we only managed to catch 1 perch. Searched all over and the perch schools were very small and spread out. There was actually a current out in front of the state park 55 fow thats where we got our one perch. Standing in the middle of the boat my line was angled down behind the transom it was strange. Decided to go in closer and drift around and cast jigs, picked up a nice walleye in 33 fow
  2. Thanks everyone for the replies, next calm weekend the lake gives up i'm gonna try and get out there and will post a report.
  3. I meant in general when I can safely get out there, like this time of year would perch be out in front of Dunkirk? It seems like I only ever read reports of perch out of the Catt or sturgeon point
  4. Would right out in front of Dunkirk this time of year in that depth range be worth trying to locate perch? im in a 12 footer so thats the closest depth I know of close to shore and comfortable distance heading out thanks
  5. we made our own worm burner using a glow colored dirty white boy spoon and to my surprise nothing touched it, looked soo fishy in the water too. Will try it in the spread again tho
  6. Caught an orange back tagged walleye this year and unless you call the number on the tag, or remove the transmitter from the fish you have no way of knowing NOT to freeze the fish whole. Luckily I did not freeze it, but if the transmitter gets frozen it ruins the data on the transmitter
  7. what type of wet fly just a standard soft hackle? Perch eyes seem to work better for me in the winter tipped on a jigging spoon. Try a drop shot rig using an aberdeen hook and threading on a 3" berkly powerbait trout worm, let it hit bottom and just shake your slack line, leaving the sinker on the bottom the whole time. tying your hook 20 inches up from your sinker lets you super slowly dead fall the bait by letting some slack in your line, watching for the line to jump. 6 pound test braid to a micro swivel then mono or flouro helps tremendously at those depths.
  8. thanks yellowpike, that was my original thought to get the bigger diameter but heard from someone that since its thicker diameter and more water resistance on it that it created a bigger bow in the line than the smaller diameter leadcore
  9. My question is what pound test or diameter leadcore do you guys run on erie?
  10. I think he means from Point Abino Canada to Sturgeon Point NY, its a natural choke point in the lake from fish leaving the upper river going west into lake Erie. I assumed the majority of the perch spawned out in that 45-55 foot of water in Erie? Can anyone chime in on where the perch actually spawn?
  11. Theres a guy in Brant that always has a ton of boat parts on buffalo craigslist, just click on the boat parts section and do not type anything into the actual search part and it will bring up everything listed under boat parts
  12. The main program is trolling there, we have anchored up out of the line of traffic and casted stickbaits and glow in the dark twisters and did well.
  13. Quality smallmouth! went out last night to evans bar, the amount of boats and traffic was insane, especially for a Tuesday night. Pretty poor bite also, I only picked up 2 and my other buddy out said he only got 2
  14. Went outta the state launch closest to the mouth yesterday and it was open, some sticks washed up and kicked over to the edges of the ramp but still got a clear shot to the water, no docks in. Water temp was 38 out in the lake and 45 in the creek. One other boat out besides us with 3 guys and no perch found yet by anyone
  15. Nobody's concerned about the pollutant concentration found in the belly meat?
  16. Anyone have eyes on the lake recently to see what the water clarity looks like? Id like to get out there in my 12 footer this weekend
  17. Anyone hear any ice reports or have eyes on the lake recently? temps seem to have been good for the last week or so. Mikey Eyes I like the #9 jigging raps, all colors work but i think i have the most legal size on the red/chrome. gold is a good color for spoons in a larger size also
  18. Nice fish! thanks for sharing
  19. Jigging for lakers? has anyone ever caught lakers in the fall shallow on reefs?
  20. Thank you Jimski2 great info! I would like to add another step just as important as putting your perch in a cooler on ice, is to bleed them as soon as you unhook them. I keep a pair of those small spring loaded garden scissors in the boat to make it quick and easy to just snip a gill. No blood in or on the fillet makes for a night and day difference in taste. Also eliminates having to wash the fillets off with water if you keep something by you to wipe your knife off on before you cut out the rib cage and skin. Having a water and ice mix in your cooler makes it easier to clean at the end of the day, just dump it out no dried blood and spray some simple green in there and wipe dry.
  21. Thank you for your reports, ive been wanting to go fish chautauqua but the last time i was there trying to fish i could not get away from pleasure boaters. how has the boat traffic been?
