    Bassmaster Northern Open Tournament coming to Buffalo August 20-22, 2026. We are in the final stages of finalizing the event. Observer Boats and Camera boats have been secured. Tournament check in/ boat check and registration will happen on 8/19, from 2PM-3PM at Bison City Rod & Gun Club, and Buffalo Rowing Club right next door. Current Field is 187 competitors, so far. There may be a few more added this week. Competitors will be launching from Safe Harbor Marina, the former Small Boat Harbor. Weigh-in will happen there as well. This is a 3-day tournament, with the first 2 days fishing the full field. Last day Saturday will cut the field down to the top 10. They will be fishing NY and Ontario waters ONLY, Lake Erie AND Upper Niagara River! I lobbied for adding the river, as to assure they can fish the full 3 days. Ifthe lake is blown up, they’ve still got the River, with the no go zone the same as the end of boating boundary just north of the north Grand Island Bridge.     Nice! Gotta try that. Went out of Buffalo yesterday. Two man limit pretty quick. Right around 60'. Sturgeon today just me. Limit again pretty quick. Found fish from over 65' to in the 50s. All bottom bouncers. All beautiful keepers. No sheepshead out of Sturgeon but my buddy got this Friday...lol

    Launched in the dark on a mission to jig this morning, spent a little time searching a few different depths, found an area with a mass of smelt on the bottom with marks above and right in the bait cloud. Hit the spot lock in 81fow using a 5/16oz glow jigging rap, same one I would use for perch and honestly it was basically perch fishing. fish were 60 down to the bottom, never a moment without multiple marks on the screen and they were on a feeding frenzy, as fast as you could get it down there they were on it immediately. There was a 5 minute period that 4 hit the box alone. most of them had the raps in the back of their throats, and anytime a boat would troll next to us they would also immediately hook up. Two of us had our two man before 630am all fish landed were spitting up loads of smelt. Truly astonishing fishing that continues to not disappoint

But three minute limit in two hours and [emoji637][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]] minutes. Fire, target harness, northern lights, bomber, purple and black harness, and a road Town with yellow belly and purple on top. Pretty much stayed in the [emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji639]][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji640]] foot to [emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji640]][emoji638] foot of water [emoji637][emoji638][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]] feet out on the Dipsey on a three setting and [emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]] feet down on the downrigger [emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]][emoji637][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]]][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji639]].JPG] Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United

    Oh the story's i could tell about my 2 young sons fishing. I wont even try to tell them but my best memory was my youngest son who was very young, and we were fishing out of my boat when we noticed him drop his rod over the side of our boat. We asked what happened to it, and he couldn't talk good enough to tell us, so he acted like he was fighting a big fish back and forth then leaned over and the fish had taken his rod, LOL a memory i can never forget and even though he is 43 now its like it happened yesterday. We started both of them while they were still in diapers.

    Saturdays big sw blow had the fish down deep, straight out of Hamburg this morning 48-52 fow had our two man by 8am. Decent marks at 30 down but no bites from them, bottom was where the action was at. Raspberry lemonade, black mamba, copper orange were the best harnesses for us.

    Fished out of Buffalo on Friday. Fast two person limit, lots of fish on the boards not as many on the bottom bouncers. Sunday total opposite. Hardly any fish on the boards and all the fish came on the bottom bouncers. Most fish came in 49Fow. Went out to 55 FOW and caught a few more on the bottom. Weird how two days makes that much of a difference. Tight lines….

    Started my own grandson at 5 years old now 26 and still fishes every chance he gets love to see a youngster enjoy the bounty we have thank you for your comment

    That is absolutley wonderful. Absolutely love nothing more than seeing our younger kids being involved in the marvellous outdoors. And a great fishing trip is a marviles place to get started. And a huge KUDOS to you for getting him out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Took a buddy and his son out off-windmills little guy reeled in 8 in 21/2 hours their first time on Lake Erie was great to see him so excited
