  1. I use 30 lb braid that way I can use that rod for double duty if needed without the dipsey. Like others said leader the length of the rod, that way netting is easier and tell newbies what to do when netting as I have a short net handle and need them to walk to the front of the boat with the rod high to net fish on the dipsey.
  2. I have a starcraft and its a nice boat been happy with it. It has a 90 hp but rated for 150 I believe and is underpowered with more than 3 people in it. Lunds are nice but pricey, you can get a good used couple year old boat and beat the depreciation. Also max out the motor for the rated hp if possible, you won't be disappointed.
  3. I agree just to throw people off. Sometimes I think it would be nice to have a map of the lake with all the local names/sites to sometimes make it easier.
  4. It's hit or miss at times for info here. The perch guys are definitely more tight lipped, there is generally more info later into the season as many don't want a huge crowd around them which you can't blame them. As early on the fish are stacked up and it can get very crowded and combat fishing is the norm, which I don't really like doing. Generally the info is more depths and lures than exact spots. When there is a tournament going on it will be very quiet. I think the site is great and have learned a lot off it and thank the people who post honest info. Like other sites there are a few bad apples or just someone having a bad day.
  5. I agree the new ramps are not good if your by yourself. As well as they create a traffic jam being so tight.
  6. If so that means they will be hungry this year. I remember a few years ago on Oneida, the fish would hit anything making for easy limits and when you cleaned them their bellies were empty.
  7. Ok thanks just wanted to be sure. Would have been nice if they got it done before the weekend but guess the cat will be busier.
  8. I think it was last year or maybe the year before but all they had was a track hoe and a pit truck (large tired dump truck commonly found in gravel pits) and a large sand pile to the southeast of the launch. It looked like they had a road along the inside of the breakwall. When I was down there last week the sand bar was out of the water. Could you see the sand bar or was it water all the way across the opening? You'd think they would get this done sooner as there would be a ton of people out fishing this weekend. And earlier depending on the year.
  9. Saw on another site that someone said they started dredging. It'll be a zoo this weekend but I'm going to try if the weather looks ok.
  10. I was by there Friday and from what I could see the sandbar was all the way across the opening. So to me it looked impassable. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Erie United Mobile App
  11. Yeah kind of surprised they want to give up that money as when the perch are on sturgeon is a zoo. Hopefully one of the launches is open for when the weather starts getting better to fish.
  12. I also agree with the othersabout fishing too high up. I had a 4 and 5 color lc out and got one fish while dipsey and Dr took the rest of a 2 person limit. I had a 7 color out also, as I forgot my 2nd dipsey rod, all it got was moved around. I have had great luck with an alewife spoon. Dark front silver back, but Orange with copper also took fish Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Erie United Mobile App
  13. So this will probably turn into another Dick's sporting goods with limited fishing and hunting gear based on the season. Guess the smaller shops will get most of my business along with FishUSA. Gander Mountain was mostly clothes the last few years anyway.
  14. Michigan stinger alewife, mid size is the one that I got and has been hot lately. I assume they put a piece of crawler on, I have used scents as well.
  15. Most of the fish I caught were puking up half digested what looked like shiners. I was constantly cleaning up pieces from the floor of the boat. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Erie United Mobile App
  16. Got a 2 person limit by 11, 16-21" fish. Couple throw backs and a few white bass. 80-85 for down on bottom. Orange and gold spoon, alewife spoon and blue chatterstick. Had one in a harness, black blade on 4 color. Went out of the catt. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Erie United Mobile App
  17. Crazy, looked at the weather report for the weekend ave it actually looks nice. Cue Twilight zone music. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Erie United Mobile App
  18. Went out of catt today, came home with 6 in the 18-22" range. Couple throw backs, one sheepshead and a few silvers. 70-85 fow, 67-79 down depending on depth. Most on dr with blue chatterstick, a few on dipsey with alewife spoon 180-230 back (braid). Down temp was 65-68, seems like they wanted it faster today 2.0-2.2 on probe. 19. Lineman, how deep were you fishing? Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Erie United Mobile App
  20. Nice, how were the waves this morning? Almost went this morning but thought it was going to be too wavy. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Erie United Mobile App
  21. 5" chatterstick in blue has been my best lure for the last few years off my rigger with the probe and torpedo weight Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Erie United Mobile App
  22. I have a depth raider, chatterstick in blue has been my best lure. I do also mix and match harnesses and sticks and have gotten fish on both at the same time. Last time out I had a triple to get my limit, one on blue chatterstick on down rigger, one in a harness on downrigger, and a harness on the dipsey. 23. I usually am doing 1.8 mph as well but did notice also that I got hits as I was turning so sped up a little. Aquaman, what type of weight do you have and what is your length from the weight? I have been playing around with different leads from 7 ft. to 37 ft. Lately I have gotten best luck at around 20 ft or less. Also I have torpedo weights but last time out I had a ball with a fin on one DR and the torpedo on the other, same depths, same lure, same lead and the one with the torpedo got hits the other didn't. So last time out I had torpedo weights on both and got hits off both DRs. I only run harnesses on the dipsey and have my best luck with that set up but have not had much luck with dipsey and plug. Seamaster the other day I was 1.8 at the probe and 2.3-2.5 SOG (GPS) and 2.0 at probe and 2.5-2.7 SOG.
  24. I use braid on mine, easier to use and you don't have to worry about kinks. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Erie United Mobile App
