  1. Last years dredge project was completed by apprentice operating engineers union . Union Concrete-donated the equipment . For a year with no
Ice on the lake and the walleye season open for two weeks it was frustrating for boaters here in the Southtown area. The town should give the marina to the County or State Parks for operation. They received all our registration fees and sales taxes that they used nothing here. Think how much sales and fuel taxes that disappeared. The money for the operation is stolen from the boating community.

  2. Last year Lake Erie remained ice free and conditions appear to be similar this year. A You Tube Video showed fishermen from West Virginia taking walleye all winter long. Fishing out of Huron, Ohio every weekend all winter long they took a lot of large walleye regularly with stickbait plugs and side planers . Will we be be able to start a similar  year?

  3. Google up "You Tube" and you will find hundreds of local fishing opportunitiy shows that you do not have a clue "how , where, and the methods you need to find world class fishing here in Lakes Erie and Ontario with upper and lower Niagara River methods.Oak Orchard River  has methods and 18 pound Brown Trout there. All this is within a couple hour drive from your home. Being restricted with the Pandemic home captured, your computer  and wi fi will pen up a new world for you sitting in your soft chair. Winter is a long season so avoid the network TV junk and watch what you desire.

  4. The Hamburg Sun newspaper reported the Evans Town Supervisor in her proposed 2021 budget had funding for dredging the The Sturgeon Point Marina. Perhaps they realized the loss of funding from marina users and travel costs for resident's travel to access the lake in their town is worth the maintenance costs.

  5. The water temperature is around 50 degrees F. now. Walleyes suspend near the surface now. Your boat spooks them away so your screen is empty. Use side planers to reach away from your boat. Deep diving plugs, jet planers will keep your lures up and not sink too deep with harnesses. Anything in the top 24 foot of the surface is where they feed on bait near the surface.

  6. The calm water from storms dumps the sediment to the bottom at the marina. That is the problem except the management fails to prepare for the shoaling on the entrance. An extension  marina to a deeper water exit could solve the problem but this will never happen. Look on Google Earth for the Crystal Beach Marina in Ontario to see how it works.

  7. The Town unfortunately is unable to operate the marina and the operation should go to the State Parks or County Parks. They receive the sales taxes and registration fees that the boating industry generates and are responsible for the neglect our boating public has to endure. Driving from Buffalo to Chautauqua County for access to Lake Erie fishing is a terrible expense and a waste of travel time. Come on now, wake up and contact your legislators for better access here in Erie County. Last year Sturgeon Point was shut down till June 20th with no ice on Lake Erie all winter. We must thank the Operating Engineers apprentice training program and Union Concrete equipment for bailing us out for a few months but next year here we go again.
