  1. Microsoft News has a video of a windmill on fire in Pennsylvania. A big mess. 4/8/2021!
  2. Hanover Town Launch to be closed this weekend for Swiftwater Training class. This is from the Southtowns Walleye site.
  3. 1:30 PM today had over 50 boat trailers in the Hanover Town boat Ramp. Most boats were cleaning large catches of large perch. Lake Erie was like glass out there this afternoon. With the fine weather weekend fishermen will have a tough time parking. Maybe the contractor will be clear of the State Ramp which was blocked closed today.
  4. The harvest of yellow perch here helps balance the walleye and bass reproduction. Also unharvested perch are added to the Ontario total allowable commercial harvest to keep the perch numbers down. This keeps our imports down.
  5. Walleye season in New York and Pennsylvania waters now closed. Ohio is open.
  6. Hanover Town docks are reported in now. The state ramp will be closed for the contractor for a couple more weeks on days now.
  7. This stupid delay for a contractor for the launch docks shows no consideration for the trailer boat operators. With all the sales, fuel, registration fees and taxes collected by the trailer boat owners. With the loss of Sturgeon Point launch early last season someone is asleep at the wheel. Competent Management is needed.
  8. Do you really think the Parks workers were cutting grass and clearing the swimming beaches? All this work could have been earlier.
  9. The State Parks nearby could free up some maintenance workers to open the docks up. The lake is too cold yet for swimming. Woodlawn, Evangola and Lake Erie are close enough to send workers for a few hours every day.
  10. During the hot summer days it was a booming recreation site. Today most of it is closed to Public Usage. From a dock at the foot of Lake Avenue a ferry boat brought City Residents to spend their day swimming and picnicking. The electric trolley car on Lake Shore Road brought visitors to swim and play. With a roller skating rink and a carousel it was not Disneyland but a place to escape the hot summer days as air conditioned homes and cars were not available. Bethlehem Steel opened the land and beach to residents and general public use. Also hundreds of small fishing boats parked and launched from the sandy beach. When we returned from fishing my father had us pick and load the boat with driftwood we burned in our coal furnace at home. My Grand mother set a tent up in the trees and had her children camp there to avoid the heat day and night. Today except for the State Park site most of the precious lakeside waterfront is unused and the public is denied. It is time now for the public access is returned and developed for recreational use. All along the former slag piles and Woodlawn break wall which was a great fishing site up to the mouth of Smoke Creek is miles of waterfront with no plan to return it to public access. Our public officials have turned a blind eye to progressive return it to Public access. There must movers and shakers that come with plans for more golf courses to be used by a few and family uses are unwelcome.
  11. Tuesday March 23, 2021 good perch catches were taken in 60 foot of water off the Catt Creek. Lake was flat calm, this wekend looks like a blow day.
  12. Apparently our State And County Legislators have dropped the ball on Sturgeon Point Marina sand bar dredging. Last week without launching docks in at the State launch, the parking lot was jammed with vehicles and boat trailers going out into the ice free lake waters to fish for perch. Yesterday with flat calm lake waters good catches were taken in 60 foot of water. This weekend it looks like blow days on the lake.
  13. The State of NY came up with 15 million dollars for a dredging project [REDI] on Braddocks Bay near Greece , NY on Lake Ontario as reported in the Rochester Newspaper. Have our regional legislators dropped the ball for our Sturgeon Point problem?
  14. Pennsylvania's Northeast Marina ramps were closed with no docks. There walleye season is current with New York's but the limit is six in season with a minimum size limit of 15 inches. Their perch limit is 30 fish and a seven inch minimum size. But the bad new is a non resident fishing license and a special Lake Erie fishing permit also. Then also be prepared for importing fish and bait regulations, covid tests from out of state travel especially returning to New York State.
  15. Scattered off shore ice off Point Breeze.
  16. No docks in at the Catt, bring hip boots or waders. Barcelona has no docks either.
  17. Catt trailer boat ramps, yesterday no docks in at at the state ramp, town ramp or Hidden Harbor Ramp. Waders or hip boots might help put your boat in. Barcelona ramp has no docks in also. Dunkirk ramp no report. Scattered ice off shore from Point Breeze. Good catches of perch and walleyes through the ice off the Catt before the walleye season closing on March 15.
  18. Look at the Ontario Marina across the lake at Crystal Beach. Use Google Earth to view it. The Sturgeon Point location is a sand trap on a Point in the lake where sediment in storm water settles out and plugs things up before fall every year. Spending our tax dollars there is like p***** up a drain pipe. A new marina on the South Shore at a better location should be started. Another problem is the movers and shakers with larger boats and charter businesses are not interested in more trailer boats sharing the fishing on the lake.
  19. The State and County collect all the boating sales taxes and registration fees. Gasoline taxes etc. disappear in Albany, Washington and County Hall. Yet the Town somehow is burdened with a bankrupt marina operation. The Town and County collects unreal property taxes for waterfront property tax assessments. Boating on Lake Erie is big business yet nothing happens to promote it.
  20. The ice field now starts east of Point Abino across the lake to Highland Cliffs at the Town of Hamburg, NY.
  21. Solid pack ice from just east of Point Abino, Canada south to Highland Cliffs, Hamburg, NY in a line to the eastern shoreline, 3/13/2021. See the Modis satelite view, Lake Erie.
  22. Lake Erie ice field shows open waters off Sturgeon Point but ice scattered near by. Cattaraugus Creek was open from ice but boat ramps docks were not in yet. Good perch fishing after ice out is usually near shore in side 55 foot of water on the shale bottom.
