  1. We fished off catt today August 15, as well. Same story as others that went too deep. We were 75 to 85 FOW. Only caught one walleye, this 9 pounder. We used dipsey diver, leadcore and downriggers. Guy at cleaning station had nice bag. He said they were 60 to 70 and they used all harnesses and did well. Our screens were loaded with more bait than I've ever seen before. 20 to 40 down. Saw some walleyes but not many.

  2. Hey Guys, the long ribbons are Walleyes. According to a Walleye Charter Captain that gave a class at the Niagara Expo show, he showed screen shots of his fish finder and pointed out the walleyes, versus sheepshead and bass etc. It has to do with the sir bladders. So yes, those longer ribbons, strings are Walleyes. Bass and sheepshead show as hooks. Believe it or not.

I WOULD SAY THOSE 2 OR 3 BIG ORANGE MARKS ON YOUR SCREEN  ARE EYES THE REST IS EITHER BAIT OR SOMETHING ELSE.  YOU HAVE 2 OR 3 SPREAD OUT ORANGE MARKS SO IT NOT DISTANCE FROM THE CONE THAT CAUSING THOSE VARIATIONS IN SIZE AND SHAPE OF THE LIGHTER MARKS OR THE THINESS AND THICKNESS OF THOSE OTHER MARKS. WALLEYE/SHEEPHEAD MARKS ARE REASONABLY CONSISTENTEN IN THEIR VARIOUS SIZES AND SHAPES. THAT'S HOW WE ARE ABLE TO READ OUR SCREENS.  IF THOSE ARE ALL WALLEYES I'D BE AMAZED IMHO. THE WALLEYE MARKS ON MY LOWANCE LOOK MOST OF THE TIME LIKE YOUR  STRONG ORANGE MARKS. THERE CAN ALSO CAN BE  CLUTTER JUST UNDER THE SURFACE EVEN CAUSE BY WAVE BUBBLES OR MOTOR INFERFERENCE.  HOWEVER I DON'T THINK THOSE MANY LIGHT MARKS ON YOUR SCREEN ARE EITHER OF THOSE.   INTERFERANCE/SURFACE CLUTTER CAN SHOW UP ON A SCREEN BUT IF TRY TO HAVE A REAL CLEAN SCREEN YOU LOOSE YOUR SENSTIVITY. THOSE HEAVY RIBBONS ON THE OTHER FISHERMAN'S SCREEN ARE NOT WALLEYES THEY JUST DON'T SCHOOL THAT WAY. TIGHT LINES

  3. We're the marks Walleyes? I'm told Walleye marks are not hooks, they are longer stringy lines. I will post a picture if I can find one. Also, we've been over solid screens of walleyes, and they woul not bite a drifted crawler, jig or anything. Had to troll to get them to bite!

2 BOATS WENT OUT OF SBH FISHED 50 TO 63 FEET OF WATER. GOT TWO IN 10 MIN AROUND 7:30 AM SAID WE'D DONE BY NOON. THEN THEY GOT LOCKJAW BY 8 AM ONLY GOT ONE MORE AFTER THAT AND FISHED UNTIL 3 PM. THE OTHER BOAT ONLY GOT ONE!!! WE BB'D WITH DIFFERENT COLORED SPINNERS DIFFERENT DEPTHS  EACH BOAT GOT AROUND  6 SH, AS I SAID WORTH REPEATING THERE WERE GREAT MARKS ON THE SCREEN ALMOST EVERYWHERE BUT NO TAKERS TO SPEAK OF. WHY DID THEY BITE AT BARCELONA BUT NOT OUT IN 55" TO 63 IN FRONT OF THE WINDMILLS  OR THE CONDOS' OR PORT ALBINO NOT  WITH GOOD MARKS MOST EVERYWHERE??? :emoticon-0101-sadsmile:

  4. So you are using a leadcore on the rigger, like a secret weapon rod? (SWR). Good idea.

Caught 7 and lost several fishing solo 6/23 pm in 45 feet. Nice class of fish mostly 22 to 23" with one 28".  3 color on the rigger 25' down, 5 color, and 7 color. Willow blades in purple/gold and nuke green. 2 to 2.1 mph GPS speed.  most fish caught trolling east. I have only been out 3 times this year and it is getting better.

  5. Thanks for the clarification, I appreciate it I'm hoping they get here soon. Last year for me wasn't good compared to the two years before.

Hi Gary, just a note that these bigger catches came near the western part of ny waters / PA line. Not from Buffalo area. Hopefully they're headed this way as some reports are indicating. The fact that this is the Buffalo walleye report thread had me going until they clarified location.

  6. My Sentiments exactly. Where are they? Doesn't seem to be any good before late July. Where are the resident Walleyes?

First time out this morning, (not in the STWT), trolled for 6 hours and only managed 1 walleye,  1 bass and 1 sheephead.  worked hard and threw the kitchen sink at them. Trolled in front of the windmills, out to the condo's and to meyers reef.  For all the suposed great spawning thats been happening the last few years, where are all the walleye?

  7. Wednesday Aug 20. Rough Water going out. Lake layed down some by noon. Started at 75 fow and trolled to 88 fow. Spent most of the time in 78 to 85 FOW trolling West. Caught 9 Walleye by 9 am then it slowed down. Ended up with 10 by noon. All on various stick baits on 10 color and 7 color lead cores. Caught a few on fluttering spoons up from downrigger placed one foot from the bottom. Dipsey divers did not produce for us. One was in the water for hours with a crawler harness and it was never touched. I woul get there at daybreak next time. We started at 645 am and it took 20 minutes to get out to depth it was so rough. Saw lots of bait, and huge globs of something on the bottom. I perceived them to be perch.

  8. Wow, I've never seen thermocline on Erie off the Catt yet. It's always been virtually same temp surface to bottom. Usually around 74 degrees.

Fished west of the Catt - would have been a shorter run from Dunkirk actually. Got our 18 fish limit in two and a half hours plus some throw backs we got while clearing rods. All on sticks, Bay Rats and Renoskys. Color didn’t matter. Fished from 75 to 90 fow primarily 40 to 60 down. Speed was 2.0 to 2.2 at the ball.

    Here is what we used:
    10 color
    9 color
    8 color
    8 color
2 - riggers at 62’ down with sticks caught 6
    2 - dioseys, one set at 2 back150’ and one at 1 1/2 back 130’. Dipseys caught 4 fish.
    Leadcore caught the rest.

Great temp break down around 55 to 65 feet. When we hit that 60 degree water it was on.

Back at it tomorrow if weather holds. Tight lines all.

  9. My wife and I managed 46 perch this morning, and then fished for walleyes from 11 -  1 and never moved a rod. We did mark fish in 60 fow, mostly 40 - 50 down. The surface temps were around 65 F, with temp on the bottom in 60 fow, at 52 F...…… Beautiful day. Picked up our bait from Millers, but all that is available right now is fatheads...… All in all, great day.
Thanks for the report. Looks like it is holding true that our good Walleye fishing doesn't start until July.
