  1. Attention hunters of Erie County, NY.

This evening at 6:00PM the Erie County Legislature will be holding a public hearing on Local Law Intro 1-1-2021, an Act to lower the deer hunting with firearms age in Erie County to age 12, pursuant to EnCon Law 11-0935, which passed the state legislature back in April 2021.

The hearing will be at Old County Hall, 92 Franklin Street, 4th Floor, again at 6:00PM. Show up a little early, wear your camo, and help us get this one across the finish line. Erie County is one of only 4 counties in upstate left to have yet to pass this law. The more that show support, the better. Rest assured the opposition will be trying to stack the gallery.

You are NOT required to speak, but you will have the opportunity to do so if you wish. Please come out and show your support!!!!

  2. Won't get anywhere by asking launch attendant about the launch rate. You need to go to a Town of Evans Board Meeting next Wednesday at 6 pm and ask Supervisor Mary Hosler!

I called yesterday,(6/9)  $15 to launch, $10 for seniors & vets.  I asked if they were going to drop the price to normal rates & got no reply & a hang up on the phone. Guess I hit a nerve.

  3. I was present at last night's Evans Town Board Meeting with other ELECBA & ECFSC Members. We were able to talk and tossed the Marina Income since 2014 to 2020 vs money paid out for dredging, wages insurance etc. and it got heated for awhile. Then the Engineers who did volunteer dredging last year, volunteered to dredge again, but with some expense money from the Town of Evans. If they can negotiate around the liability Insurance issues etc.we may see dredging very soon. Then once Schumer gets FEMA funds the whole Marina ,wall repairs, electric repairs and complete dredging will get done.So I believe we accomplished a lot last and possibly of Sturgeon Point Marina being open in 2021 has a better outlook!

  4. NYSDEC has been approached about making Sturgeon Point Marina a Statebm Park, no response back yet.
Breakwall Money has been sitting there since 2018,I believe 1.2 million.Town of Evans saying no where near enough money to do the repair. Please come to the April 21st meeting and voice your concerns. We need a very big turnout by everyone to get the Marina Open for 2021!

If the Town of Evans has no interest in maintaining the marina it's about time to approach the state about making it a state park.
What happened to the money that was earmarked for the repair of the breakwall?

  5. WE NEED YOUR HELP -- BOATERS & ANGLERS

This is the Town of Evans supervisors position on Sturgeon Point Marina.

There is a public meeting next Wednesday, April 21st at 6pm.

We need boaters and anglers to come out and support the opening of the marina. Let's pack the place and make it happen.

    Town of Evans Town Hall

    8787 Erie Road

    Angola NY 14006

Sturgeon Point is the only harbor for safe refuge between the Small Boat Harbor in Buffalo and the marine facilities (not

a harbor and not safe in severe conditions) at the Cattaraugus Creek, so it is very important for mariner’s safety for it to

be available. Examples of port to port mileage along New York waters:

North East, PA to Barcelona, NY 10.5 miles

Barcelona, NY to Dunkirk, NY 15 miles

Dunkirk, NY to Buffalo, NY 30 miles

If Sturgeon Point is operational, the distance is cut nearly in half.

Dunkirk, NY to Sturgeon, NY 18 miles

Sturgeon, NY to Buffalo, NY 12 miles

The elimination of Sturgeon Point Launch & Marina significantly reduces the emergency response on Lake Erie.

Emergency response teams will be forced to travel further to launch and attend to situations on the lake.

  6. Beautiful day on Chautauqua Lake with 73 degree sun filled day. North basin the water was gin clear and depths over 25 ft were mostly a dead sea, void of everything. Most bait & fish were in the weeds near shore. We had to short line troll next to weed edges to find action. We went 4 for 6 but all drinks, biggest was 37".3 hit Boss Shad 5" and 1 hit Wiley 5 1/2" Jtd.

Best action was by Midway to Viking Club up on shelve.

Since the Buffalo Harbor is still to warm and void of fish mostly,I will hit Chautauqua Lake a couple more times yet.

  7. We started out in the South Basin marking a few walleye ,but no bigger hooks.Water quality was putrid heavy algae.Moved to North Basin and marked only walleye in 25 to 35 ft depths. We then shortened trolling lines and got right up on weed edges and found bait fish balls. Finally catching a 35 1/2" muskie. The water was tea color and we were following a 30 degree overnight outside temperature drop making action very slow.Looks like most fish & bait are in near shore weeds.70 degree water up North and 68 degrees South. This coming weekend will be major cold front , high near 55 and low near 38.We will wait till middle on next week to try again.
