  1. mikem thanks for all the insight on the TR1 was very valuable...now we got to put some fish in the box! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  2. Thanks for all the replies. Turns out it was a bad compass ball from the factory. Garmin sent me an exchange for mine and once I got it installed and calibrated it ...all set works like a charm. Had it out Saturday...I will never own a boat without one. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  3. I have new Muddy Creeks and they are awesome...less expensive, look good, work great and are rock solid. Highly recommend them. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  4. Installed it myself in 6 hours plus had to calibrate it on the water which takes some time to do...when you calibrate it, it has to be flat on the water or the fkuxgate compass will not work properly. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  5. Just got my TR1 installed and running, had some issues with compass ball being bad out of the box, Garmin replaced it and once installed works like a dream. It drives the boat better at trolling speeds than people can and it allows you to actually fish more. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United

  7. I will start with Garmin as Hodges is just retail. The hook up to the HDS is a nice add on to enable routes and waypoint track following, although that could bd a source of the problem and may need to be disconnected to ensure its not confusing the AP. I am going to try to get in the water Thursday during the day and see if they can help me via cell phone. It will be nice to not have to be steering all day...I am hoping I can get it working for what it cost. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United
  8. I purchased it from Hoges Marine in Tampa, best price I could find online. I got it running ok but the thing wont hold a course, it starts to then goes hard to port and stays there. I may have to call Garmin tech support while on the water. I got the calibration done riding in circles and got North set as well. I have it hooked to my HDS12 I tried setting a route and use the gps track feature, it starts ok then starts wondering in a circle. I am at a loss. 9. Anyone out there know a good local tech, shop or TR1 owner that can assist in setting up a TR1 Gold. Did the install myself but need some help in getting it all calibrated correctly and running the way it should on my rig. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United Mobile App
  10. I sit on the tournament committee, manage the STWA website along with the Fishline and my wife is on the board as of recent, we are both aligned with getting things modernized and organized better. There definately needs to be a clear shift in thinking on the use of technology compared to how things have been done in the past, however for some people change is hard to accept and can be intimidating. I think though as Jim has stated that there needs to be a clear shift in how we present ourselves and how we run our programs. Our efforts need to be well balanced to meet not only the needs of current members but also ensure we are looking at future anglers and younger generations with a clear focus on maintaing a strong fishery and supporting our community. 11. If thats the case then those concerns need to be brought to the tournament committee for consideration. There are many new folks in there that would want to hear the opinions from the members and in turn take it to the main membership for a vote for a date change. They meet the Monday the week before the general meeting. I still agree with Fishkiller16 that with so many big prize tournaments in July the timing is pretty good for a smaller event for amateurs that want to have some fun and not spend a fortune to get in and try to get some modest winnings. The larger tourneys in July pay more but also cost more to enter usually. The STWA tournament is a nice event to kick start the season off no matter your skill level or size of your wallet. 20. We hookup on perch typically with wire spinners made old school with wire and spring set for your baitholder snelled red hook with chartreuse colorado blades, orange glow beads then pair two of them with wire lightweight spreaders. Snap about 3/8 oz lead on the spreader clip. Tip the hook with a minnow, drop them with light spinning tackle about a foot off the bottom and it just destroys jacks in the spring on Erie. The beauty of spreaders is you can get double headers, if a goby picks you on one you still have one spinner working. This is really good when your working two setups, one rod is pounding with the boat action vertically pulling the blades up hard then fluttering them down on the drop and you can have the other in your hand to hook up, nothing beats this setup in springtime. Good luck keeping your lines in the water when they get on the bite! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United Mobile App
