  3. Turn on you reel clicker.
Back off you drag until dipsey starts moving out slowly.
Go do something else while checking on your line counter every once and a while.
I usually start setting up my other dipsey rod.
When you get depth you want, start tightening drag until reel just stops clicking.
Listen for additional fast clicking (doesn't always happen by the way), you probably caught something.
    Repeat
X2 normally both dipsys heading out both riggers go down stop dipays. Works great

  4. Looks like a fun day! I just booked a rental just south of walnut creek for 15 - 19 September. Planning to hit lake Erie and this will be my first. I run a 2020 targa v19 combo tourney edition with a 225 merc and a 9.9 kicker. I think it will do for the lake but welcome any insight into how much and which direction of wind is not good to be out in. Along with any recommended boat safety gear that may be recommended for boat on Lake Erie. When in doubt, Pymayuning is only 40 minutes away . TIA for any and all info. Tight lines!
Don't forget about Presque isle bay....some awesome fishing in there!!!!

  6. Beautiful morning. Did like 15 fish or something 5 keepers and a sweet catfish that made the day....good looking blow boat too...50-70 fow scattered find them and circle if you can....harnesses and spoons for me but I can't get real slow...I think if can roll harnesses along bottom at 1.2-1.5 probably do better but weed thru more too...20210808_115454.jpgIMG_20210808_160104.jpg20210808_091531.jpg

  7. Usually wait for a favorable forecast before heading up, then when we get there, it turns poor. Maybe we will be surprised and it will turn for the better. Too many times I've stayed home due to a bad forecast, then find out the weather great.
It's looking better ....we did 5 keepers and bunch of short and junk today only fished 6-1020210807_110110.jpg

  8. Agree with the northeast wind and the current pulling east probably isn’t the best scenario. Also I couldn’t find any cooler water, was reading 74 degrees down to the bottom, ( unless my sub-troll is off )

I'm graphing the thermocline at about 60 feet down over 80fow out if northeast....my probes not working ATM but I can see it on graph

  9. I just checked, it is 15 hook points per line, even with a 3 treble hook stick bait and (2) 3 hook worm harnesses I would still be under by 3 hook points
I guess if you thought about it....how many fixed cheaters could you hook to a rigger line? Be a long line for walleye.

I believe it's a similar concept to a Seth Green rig for lake trout....(I think lol) would just be electric reel instead of manual

  10. If the rigger has its own lure and hooks, it should be classified as a rod & reel. Of the lure and hooks are on a separate line, then it shouldn't. I know Ohio gets very specific about how many single or treble hooks can be on any given rod & reel.

I believe also ny has a hook "point" rule....and I agree once hook is attached it's counted to the rod limit....at least one would think

  11. Where do the regs say rod and reel can be a downrigger crank and boom? You'd just be running stranded wire, BIG inline weight, and a short leader. As long as you weren't over your rod limit, i think you'd be legal.

The rigger would probably be classified as a rod and reel wouldn't it? Like those deep drop electric ocean reels?

No idea just an interesting concept.....

  12. Interesting on the Gambler rig. Can you purchase them locally? I'm coming up next Sunday to fish till Friday. Hope the weather is good. I stay at the Colonial.

  13. I AM NOT SURE HOW TO READ A HUMMINBIRD SCREEN NO EXPERIENCE.  DO THINK THE BIG DARK MARKS ARE THE BAIT OR THE WALLEYES? THOSE NOT LIKE THE RIBBONS THE OTHER FISHERMAN SHOWED US ON HIS SCREEN. THX
I think the longer marks with yellow in them are fish....I think some of the smaller "clutter " up top could be bait...fleas...grass..mayflies or whatever they are actively chasing....thats how I interpret that screen.

Ps doesn't mean I'm right lol

  14. Fishing still pretty decent when you find them.

Read on gambler rigs fb page that captians were using death traps with his harnesses. So thre 1 on rigger to play with. Wouldn't you know it did 5 of our keepers yesterday....tons of shorts to weed thru

Attached pic of the gambler rig harness set up if you haven't seen them

I have no real bite sucks theory...

I know the 4th we crushed them....the 5th we didn't.. same spot same water...same depth temp speed lures all the same...did 12 in few hrs...then 1 in 6 lol
