  1. Start looking where the deer are hanging out in December and January, find there hiding spots. These will Be close to feeding and bedding areas. The best tip I can give you is to leave your cameras out in heavily used deer areas or suspected used areas to see when the deers antlers that your looking for is no longer on his head. I usually have 20 cameras out at any given time year round. I don’t pull all my cameras after hunting season.

    Newbie from NWPA

    Hello All,
As  my user name suggests, I'm a newbie that lives in NW Pa and has recently re-caught walleye fever after a couple weeks in Canada fishing. I have also just purchased a boat that I hope to use for walleye fishing in Canada but would possibly like to try Lake Erie if the weather would permit the small boat I have. I hope to learn here and possibly in the future add input. Ive loved fishing my entire life but raising children and working seemed to take priority over the years. Now kids are grown and fishing is back on my to-do list. Years ago my father and I fished Lake Erie for walleye but it's been so long I barely remember much of it. So, thanks for having me aboard!

welcome aboard, im also from Pa. central Pa. I fish Erie all summer for walleye if I can be of any help send me a PM ill be more than happy to help.   PS. I fish out of North east mostly.

  3. I fished out of the Northeast marina Friday thru Monday. Only boated 3 legal walleyes. You name it I tried it. From 40 FOW to 115 FOW. Trolled over 60 miles. From the NY line to the stacks in Erie. Caught some of the smallest walleye in my life, were talking 6 to 8 inches but only 3 over 17, 18 inches. We did catch some really nice small mouths and marked a ton of perch on Friday in 70 FOW.
I think the fish up around Dunkirk are local fish and you might do really well there but as far as the Pa. walleye, I think they are moving east. Good luck ( Stillwater) hope you the best.

Last Tuesday down off Lorain ,Ohio, limits of walleyes were taken fishing the top twenty foot of water. The strong offshore wind caused an upwelling of cold water on the bottom of the lake. Our graph showed nothing on the bottom but these fellows decided to fish the top water as we do in the spring and early summer and limited out. so if nothing showing on the bottom fish on top.

I hope this holds true for further east. ill be fishing out of Northeast Friday thru Monday.  hopefully a few steelhead stagers too.

  5. Experienced fisherman but not with walleye.  It was my 3rd try at fishing Walleye lifetime, once in my old boat 10 years ago... skunked, once this spring at night landed a HUGE catfish but no walleye.  Been reading about all the success you guys have had and made the trip from Newfane to launch out of the Catt.  Trolled worm harnesses 1.5 to 2.2 but being a salmon guy I had my releases too tight, after about an hour checked the riggers, fish on both, not huge but easily keepers.  Set releases looser, set out the boards with lead core and caught 4 more and had a blast doing it.  I was not out all that long.... next time I make that drive I will stay for the day.59c938b520d27_CoolerFull.thumb.jpg.b15b54d7541a88f5da78b230df2e2e3f.jpg

Nice report. I bet you go more often.

can someone share with me the speeds that are working for you? I  also am having difficulty because we are fishing stick baits, harnesses, and spoons. Seems no speed is right for all of them, and so as I vary speed some are not working at all as far as action. Just ordered an itroll, so I will try the hunt mode and see if that helps, when it finally gets here.

I don't have down speed so I fish from 1.5 to 2.2 GPS and let the fish tell me where they want it.

  7. I've also been catching most fish within 8 feet of the bottom in 70 to 90 FOW. not to say I haven't caught a few about half way down. but the majority have been caught just off the bottom.

Your fishing to high in water column. Get it down 70 to 80 ft and you'll be in business.

Your about rite.  half of the fish we've been catching are over 18", that's my personal low size limit. Not enough meat on a 15" fish for me.

to get 12 keepers we have to catch between 20 and 26 fish.
