  1. We fished the Innovative Outdoors Tourney this weekend. Pre fished Thursday, fished the big fish Friday event, and the main event yesterday. With over 150 walleye boated in three days, we had a blast. Some big lakers and nice steelhead mixed in as well. Unfortunately, we never did find the size of fish we were looking for. And we threw everything at them. Our best producer was spoons on our riggers. 10 color with Bomber Long A's and Divers took fish with a mix of spoons and sticks. We caught over 50 yesterday but only 5 over 20" which is the minimum length for the tournament. I had fun in Dunkirk for the weekend but after reeling in that many eyes, I'm glad to back on Lake Ontario this week chasing kings.

  2. Innovative outdoors guess they have over 40 boats. It's a well run tourney big pay out. Out of Dunkirk. It will be neat to see if anyone can target big fish.
We get one 6lber plus per 20 eyes. So that means we need to catch a 120 in 8 hrs to win. On saturday we kept 27 eyes two 7 plus and a 5lber. Big fish are right mixed in with little ones. Strange going out there and focusing on how not to catch small eyes. They are everywhere which is wonderful.
We tournament fish and prior to sunset shootout I had big fish located bouncing bottom in 60 ft off vanburen.  Gave them 3hrs and had one decent fish.  Boat traffic can kill that bite in a hurry.

I'll see you at the tourney Friday and Saturday Ron. Coming down to your neck of the woods with Carl to try and win some money this time.

  3. Then when you find fish, hit from every direction, never leave fish to find fish, work them hard.

That's a saying I live by. The only time I leave fish to find fish is when the area gets crowded or they are all dinks. Sometimes it's a certain direction that gets the bites, sometimes it's a certain speed. We did our first good box this year bottom bouncing at .9-1.1 mph, and the next week it was all dipseys and riggers at 1.7 mph. Sometimes it's leadcore in the top 20'. Just have to be prepared for all the possibilities and find what triggers them

  4. Maybe  try some deeper cores. We caught 9 out of our 11 fish yesterday on 7, 8 and 10 color lead with stickbaits. The 8 and 10 color catching the most and biggest fish, a 9 lbs two 8 lbs and a 7 lbs.  The rest were smaller eaters.  I have not caught a fish yet on my riggers this year.  What lead are you guys running on your riggers?  mine have been set at around 50ft back, which usually works for me.

Short leads on riggers. Only 7' back

  5. Kingslammin, how deep were the dipsies and downriggers set? When I was out we had a 4, 5 and 7 color lead core out and never got a hit on them, I was changing colors of harnesses. The downrigger was right off the bottom as well as the one dipsy I had out. So I set the other DR to similar depth and got a hit. I was going to set up another dipsy but we had stuff going on in the afternoon and had to leave.

Downriggers were 1-2' off bottom with short leads and dipsies were close too as I would tick bottom on inside turns.

I fished sturgeon Monday from 11-3 and only got one 22" eye and lost two others. Barely marked any fish at all. We tried 45-55' with harnesses and sticks. Only bites were on harnesses

  8. Small Boat Harbour Sat May 27 Fished today in front of wind mills. 9 rods  depth water 42 ft to 19 ft.
Not a single fish 7 AM till noon.
Not even a junk fish or a bass
DEC girl was taking a survey when we put boat on trailer. She had a grand total of 1 walleye and 3 smallies at noon and there had to be around 50 boats out there. A few guys at Seneca shoals which we did not fish and the rest scattered between wind mills and south gap. Tried stick baits and harnesses. 2 colors lead and 20 ft jet and snap weight.
    Didly squat

I was out Saturday and Sunday too. We searched from the windmills in 15-40' over to Meyers and back over top Seneca. Ran in to donnellys wall and the other break walls at the mouth and only a few bass. I bottom bounced harnesses, trolled deep divers and shallow sticks on 2-5 colors of lead, straight deep divers on braid, etc. We marked very few fish, and what we did mark was glued to structure. Even tried jigging the structure for a bit with no luck.

  9. Went to Dunkirk this morning for walleye. Fished from 7:30 to 2.  ZIP. Tried from 15-65 FOW .  Sticks, plugs, jigs, bait.  Four male perch.  Didn't mark any active fish.  A few boats around us and they weren't setting the world on fire either.

I went back to the windmills again today but fished deeper 35-40' and struck out again. We worked our way out into the sandy flats and even made a run out near Meyers and came back over Seneca. Three bass is all we got to show for it. One was 5.5 lbs. all were caught on two colors with a purple and gold flicker shad. Missed a couple short hits on harnesses but not much even marked. I know they're out there somewhere. IMG_1496005913.395619.jpg
