    We stopped many
    Times yesterday looking for perch and trolled for four hours out deep. Never did we see any small hooks on the screen. Even in close to shore did we see anything on the screen indicating to what I think could be perch. Usually we would expect them to be close to the walleye schools but nothing happened out deep. I am taking some Goldie's and frozen salted emeralds out today but have no prospects expected. The narrow gap off Sturgeon Point to Canada may work.

    Our bait dealers are getting too old and do not have the gumption any
    More to catch their own bait. They have become dependant on golden shiners delivered to their stores and they are longer lived in their tanks. If you have unused emeralds, keep them packaged in your freezer with a little salt that keeps them loose in the sandwich bags. Also keep them in a cooler with an ice pack to keep them fresh looking. Heat will cause them to become faded and mushy and hard to keep on your hook.

    The migration of Lake Erie's perch to the shallow waters of eastern lake waters begins with the falling water temperatures. The gap of nine miles between Sturgeon Point and Point Abino in Canada concentrates the perch schools from the sixty mile width mid lake distances. Further note the perch feed mainly in the mud bottom rather than the shale rock bottom area further narrow travel lane. Start looking at your graph at fifty plus feet for them. The currents in the lake increase rapidly in the area so depressions on the bottom hold perch avoiding the currents. That is why some boats are catching while others crowd them and still are unsuccessful. Your anchor position shifts with wind changes and you
    Lose the fish. The lake is like a river through there as air pressure changes move a lot of water up and down the lake. good luck and remember perch filets are selling for twenty dollars a pound now. Take care of your catch using ice and those small ones are better "eaters" than the sixteen inchers you brag about

    Today only three walleye out in 70 foot of water. Only a few fish scattered on the screen. Water temperature dropped four degrees out there. Near the south shore the water was down ten degrees from the offshore winds. Cold water upwelling there. Walleye were reported at 55 foot lately. One boat had six out deep though but the screens were mostly blank. There you go, the end of summer migration has begun.

    A Canadian commercial fisherman told me one time they suspend up there because the dissolved oxygen content is too
    Low but they drop down occasionally during the day to feed in the mud for the critters that are there. It is better to find them where the thermocline and bottom intersect. Should find some at 60 to 65 foot so start searching there.
