  1. Im new to Erie, but my walleye trolling is done on water where currents are seldom a factor. I run a probe for temp and use downspeed because its easier to see than my graph! I mentioned to DJ a couple years ago when he was on my boat that I wasnt a big fan of harnesses, though not because they dont work for me, just prefer hardbaits.....the faster the better! Of course you do what you have to to catch, but thats where I start. Just about anything Rapala makes will run well at faster speeds which makes them pair well with spoons...as opposed to just about anything from Reef Runner which are at at their best slow which makes them pair nicely with harnesses.

  2. Otisco has great crappie fishing and small water. According to the DEC techs that did the last full lake survey, there is a booming population and it certainly doesnt get a lot of pressure. I know a guide from Ontario who brings his drift boat down and rows out for em....he usually punches a 3 man ticket of slabs. Im planning on offering trips for em spider rigging and baitfishing this year for customers that want a multi-species trip. Campground, cabins, bait, launch, slips, and good shore fishing for crappie on site. Pm me if you need any info...

  3. I certainly KNOW nothing about Erie...yet...but in the finger lakes during the alewive spawn you can find fish in 1-3 fow on sand bars and gravel bars. This action can last a couple weeks or a couple months depending on water temperature it seems. This isnt to say they arent in 5-10 fow also...they just dont seem to hit right on the surface in deeper water. In my experience while the combat trollers are catching you can do as well or better finding your own water. I know if the ONLY way to catch fish is being in the pack combat trolling ill be getting skunked.

  4. Im not talking shore...im talking hunting em with a trolling motor and your ears at night. Once you pattern em its night after night of addictive fishing! It as close to fishing a blitz in saltwater as you can get walleye fishing. 6 hrs of bait splashing on surface every single night in the same spots....somebody's got to be doing it....

  5. My goal with a fish that is to be released is to have it out of water no longer than i can comfortably hold my breathe. You can get a pic and a measurement in less than 30 seconds. If the fish is stressed badly leave it in the water. The exact size of a fish isnt really so important unless you believe it validates you as a fisherman...and to that id say the example you set and your efforts at conservation are what defines you...especially if you are the face of the sport on TV.

  6. I just cant get into walleye central...had a walleye pro who is on tv regularly and sponsored by berkley just go on and on about how awesome nanofil is and how its the only braid for him...i tried to say how i used it the previous year and it wears with heavy use which i didnt like for the money...he crucified me with all kinds of technical berkley bs...last week on next bite he was explaining how he uses fireline for durability and nano isnt as durable. Pros that push product with bs that is anything but true turned me off and i havent signed on since. Same angler was catching and releasing eyes 2 weeks ago on next bite and every single fish he was flopping on the carpet and talking for way to long just holding the fish out of water...and he is SUPPOSED to be promoting ethical fishing not just berkley products...sorry for the rant! I much prefer LOU and LEU!

  7. Power trim would be huge! I have the terrova, but ill upgrade to 36 volt ulterra soon! I do a lot of night casting trips where a tm is a must and being able to control everything from my captains chair while my guests or customers fish is key. I can watch my graph and gps without anyone fishing losing their night vision. Id love to be able to get the trolling motor trimmed right out of the water for big fish and so i could move a bit with the big motor with out getting up...
