  2. So the depth chart on the Jet divers claims 100’ of 17lb mono will achieve the target depth of the diver being used (at speeds of 1.5-2.5mph).

The precision trolling app says that in order to reach 30 fow on a Jet 30 you need to let out 197’ of 30lb braid (which is equivalent diameter to about 8lb mono).

THIS IS A MASSIVE DISCONNECT and I don’t know which one to follow.

Also, how is trolling with braid? I was always told mono is choice for trolling.

I am looking to run a 4 rod spread off Church walleye boards, outside/shallow boards running either deep diver Bayrat cranks (20-25 fow) and the inside boards running sticks or spoons off Jet 30s...Or for a deeper set up run Jet 30s on outside and Jet 40s on inside with whatever baits

Lastly - will the walleye boards even be able to pull Jet 40s ?

    Thanks!!

  3. One of my trolling motor/deep cycle batteries is depleted so the onboard charger isn’t giving it a charge. I will happily pay someone who can help me get this fixed. All marinas are closed and Im not even remotely knowledgeable about this stuff. Boat is in City of buffalo. if you’re further away I can add some more $$ for any travel

  4. Don’t worry about the lure weight rating. You might get away with that ML but most use a M to MH fast action. You want a sensitive tip and a good back bone. With a fast tip you’ll be able to feel the bottom well and still have a good hook set.

thank you very much for the direct, concise, and intelligent answer. exactly what I was looking for. thank you, sir!

  5. Simple question:

Does lure rating apply to sinkers also? I have a 7’ ML rod rated for 8-14lb line and 1/4-1/2 oz lures. However, I want to use this to fish the lower niagara drifts and would need to attach a 1oz pencil lead. Granted, I would not be actually casting, just bottom bouncing/vertical drifting from a boat.

    Please provide some input!

    greatly appreciated

  6. I fish the river all my life spent my summer as a kid on the upper river in fact my grandfather and father where fishing guides on the river. I have never seen or heard of any one catching a laker in the upper river BUT anything can happen. we would catch steel head in the spring and fall off the walls and at the head of the river but not like you would in lake Ontario. If you can get your hands on a book called Sander Fishing guide 2 it has a world of info on fishing this area of N.Y. state. it has maps and fish found in an area and spots to try for most fish. good luck hope this helps

    much appreciated, Norm!

  7. No lakers, if your lucky you might and I say might catch a brown more so in the spring and late fall, you can catch steelhead in some places in the spring and fall but not a lot, walleye fishing can be good and the bass fishing is outstanding along with some good musky fishing and pike fishing. REMEMBER most of the west river is  Canadian water.

thanks. I guess what’s confusing my is, why is the steelhead fishing in Lake Erie & Upper River spotty, but the Erie Tribs full of them?

  8. Steelhead, lakers, browns are a possibility in the upper but nobody targets them that i know. NYS quit stocking browns and the "new" (been declining for years) steelhead stocking program has numbers way down. No salmon in Lake erie besides natural reproduction which is rare but does exist. Ive never really fished the upper but i think spring is a good time for walleye there. Thundermist fishing on youtube has a few videos on walleye fishing the upper

thanks. I’m a huge fan of Thundermist and Ivo - had the pleasure of meeting him. Thundermist is also what kind of confuses me though! I’ve seen videos of Ivo catching lakers and steelhead right in the upper river! There’s a few videos of him in winter right in front of fort erie launch (between “the bridges”) catching steelhead on roe bags. I then ask people about this and they seem confused
