Line being the fence?

caught 12 in two hours, half in four pound range, dipsy and worm harness, bright colors today took most.  Lots of boats, found a tight school off pack and hit a couple of triples (using just three rods), 48 ft half way to line out of south gap.

We headed out yesterday and got to the launch and realized my buddy forgot the fish finder. We were there at 04:30 and I managed to forget two poles while getting arranged. Luckily a good samaritan brought them back to us. Caught 3 very slow for us. Thinking of heading west Saturday.

Been fishing the last two days, middle gap bouncers and boards 38ft. 2 man Limit 2 hours 15 mins yesterday. Fished 4 hours today kept 15. There out there, doubled or tripled every fish.

Me and my buddies are also headed out Sunday were Thinking Barcelona but I was wondering if the bite is any hotter back to the East. Going to try some worm harnesses.

Unharvested perch have a high impact on walleye, bass and other fish as they feed on fry and fingerlings of the walleye and bass. They also impact the emerald shiners, gobies, mussels and fleas. It is a failure of the anglers who ignore the need to balance the harvest of perch.

Great question and not an easy one to answer. First off, we are just coming off a down cycle. I used to catch perch at the water pump inlet in Johnsons cove just west of Pt Breeze and also in the lake at Gannet and Sodus in the summer time.  They were always shallow  - 6-10'. Not at all like Erie perch. Most importantly - habitat. We do not have a mud bottom. No insects to feed on. The summer perch I caught would feed on crayfish along the shore.  As I said, we are coming out of a down cycle. The perch fishing has been pretty good from Rochester east in the bays and the mouth of the Genesee. The guys, and myself included , are more tight lipped about Ontario perch too. The perch here are very localized and can get overfished easily, I have seen this happen. The Erie perch are in much greater numbers and spread out . It is a lot easier to say they are off the Cat in 68' then at a particular spot in a particular bay off Ontario. There are plenty more reasons, but I hope this was a start.
 
 

Why is Ontario not as hot for perch like erie. I live near sandy creek. Hamlin area and never hear of anyone doing well on the lake. The other page for Ontario is a stagnant page compared to this one.

We went out Saturday in 80-83 fow and had great success for some newbies thanks to all the tips and support from you guys! Last eye trip for this season. Might get out for the perch at some time. On to bow hunting and waterfowl. Again thanks and tight lines.

Off the Catt Sat 9/23. Had a great day today (finally). Got 19 walleyes and a few silver bass. We struggled our first two times out, but many thanks to all those who gave me advice and tips, it helped. Going out again tomorrow to try some more.  The fluttering technique worked pretty well, with a spoon, and the rest came off dives back 230. No actual hits on the downriggers at all. I thought that was strange.

We did well out of Barcelona Sunday. With the tips I've followed here and the nice gentleman we may at the gas station we were able to put in 11 nice eaters with two guys. Thanks everyone and good luck. Now to figure out perch on Erie
