  1. There's a killer jig bite (blades & bucktails) pre & post spawn (march-april) in the far western basin...shallow..less than 20 fow. As season progresses into summer with fish moving deeper and little to no structure, it becomes a trolling game by 98% of the fisherman. As you know, Oneida has a ton of structure, which tends to concentrate fish longer and extends the jig bite thru June...if you want numbers in July, troll. However you may be able to box some fish drifting

  2. I got one for you boys..... out of the kazillion walleyes I've caught in my life, last year was the first time I ever did bacon wrapped walleye on the grill. it was fabulous...still can't believe it took me that long to try it as I've done bacon wrapped everything else. Well.... my latest creation on my new chargiller smoker/grill a few weeks ago with some fresh Dunkirk eyes was this.... brush with olive oil, sprinkle on some of my "magic fish spice" (any Cajun like spice will do), wrap with bacon (both sides) then a light pecan wood smoke. OMG!!!! easy peasy.... the light smoke was such a nice touch. def will be doing that again soon!

  3. Hey J. Sparrow.... have you lost any tackle yet using light leaders on your dipsy's? I started to a couple years ago and then added the short snubbers on the tail end of the dipsy & went to 20lb fluoro leaders. That solved my issue. At one point I was going to try the slide divers for more of a stealthy setup (lengthen the leader from dipsy to lure), but ended up experimenting with a long fluro leader. I tried 20' leaders and ran this one particular color renosky.....OMG, I couldn't keep fish off that setup. You did have to hand line fish -to-net which wasn't too bad.

  4. Thanks Randy for sharing...sure would like to get out on em soon...this work stuff is over rated

There are a lot of fish in 70’ to 90’ straight out of Dunkirk. Caught ten Saturday.  Caught them on Dipsys with harnesses and leadcore with sticks.  6 came in the first hour. Then took another 4 hrs to get the other 4.  Most fish were from 45 to 65 down

  5. Ditto Randy...in deep water (ie: NY summer time)...it doesn't spook them...i catch a shit ton of fish popping lures off my downriggers, which are straight down below the boat

I fish with four dipsy’s. The outsides I run on 3’s and insides on a 1 and catch just as many on the insides as I do the outsides. When they’re down 45’ and deeper I don’t think they scatter like they do when they’re up higher in the water column

Hi Rookie, are you marking very many fish where you are fishing? If you do not see many marks keep looking for them. I won't fish an area if I am not marking fish.

I STRONGLY second that..... I don't set rods until I find fish Period! the only caveat might be if I see a pack of boats with nets coming out. Then they have already told fish are present. Don't waste your time trolling on a blank/white screen

  7. Fish are coming Boys...if yer not into traveling, you will have to wait some for the BIG migratory schools....i fished 7 days last week in the central basin...i knew fish were further west than our port, so we trailered as far west as Geneva to get on em good..trust me they are sometimes moving quick...we got some beauties..NY ports will light up soon enough...hey, but don't be afraid to spend a little time and money in Ohio...good people out there

Scorpions catch fish but tend to suffer from a common Stinger problem of paint adhesion.  Number of good choices in spoons with Silver Streak, Moonshine, Warrior, Dreamweaver Super Slim having good product.  It is nice to have a mix of size from the small 2.25 inch up to 3.25.  My best spoon this year has been a 3.25 R&R Superlite w/Black Edge and Mirage Diamond with Gold UV cup.  I just had Dave do up so more for me plus a Grape edge and a Green edge model to try some more flavors.  With spoons never just buy one!

  9. Just my Luck.... the spoon in your pic on the top, left was our "Hero" spoon for 5 days when we fished the central basin over the 4th of July. That was before all the fish showed up in NY waters. we couldn't keep fish off this lure. It's always a good walleye fishing trip when I have electrical tape wrapped on at least one finger...LOL

  10. here is my walleye spoon box...Dreamweaver SS's, WD's & worm burners, Scorpions, NK28s, Suttons, Evil eyes & another new, smaller one that I forget the name of right now. And YES small spoons will catch Big fish too. I've had great luck on the larger spoons sometimes too. when the spoon bite is HOT, many will catch fish

  11. just as an fyi.... a few years ago i set up my dipsey divers with light fluoro leads (and NO snubber)...say 12 lb leader.... i did end up losing a shit ton on lures...sometimes as simple as trying to get dipsey close to bottom oriented fish in 40-60 fow. This year i switched to the smaller, clear snubbers and 20# fluoro leaders. I don't think I can say I haven't lost a single lure.... but very few... and I catch plenty of eyes on them. Sucks when you start losing some of your Hero lures, esp when you only had 1 of them
