  1. Waiting for your report

Sent from my iPhone using Lake Erie United

Fished last week from Sunday thru Thursday.. fought the wind a few times, but managed to fish every day. Overall it was pretty slow.. averaged 5 or 6 per day for 2 guys. The fish we did get were all quality fish… mostly 21 to 24 inches. Stickbaits produced the best for us in 65 to 80 feet of water. We usually ran to the PA line and trolled back.. finding the best bite west of red roof. Very few junk fish. Great time.. wish the bite was better. Hope to try again in a few weeks. Good Fishing, Sluggo

  3. Any reports out of Barcelona recently?
Last I heard fishing out of Erie Pa was slowing down.

Fished this past Sun. thru Tues.. plenty of fish still there. Had to work for them one day.. the other two they came pretty easily... ps.. the restrooms are closed now, but the launch is free!

Good job Chris .... Thanks for the report where did you stay ? the last 2 times the theater motel has been booked but I can only reserve a day in advance after checking weather reports  (Paul)

Paul.. We stayed at the Theater. We'll be there again next week. Had no problem getting a room.

  5. Fished most of last week out of Barcelona Harbor. Did best east of the harbor around Brocton Shoal. Larger fish seemed to be over deeper water on the outside of the shoal.. Fish on or inside ran smaller, but still nice fish. We ended up with around 35, with most in the 3 to 4 lb. range. Never really patterned them. One day it was mostly harnesses, the next day it was all stickbaits. Can't even offer a preferred depth as we got them from 35 to 60 feet down. Surface temp was in the mid seventies and we still read 70+ 60 feet down. We're going to give it another shot next week. If you want lakers.. Just drop a spoon down to bottom in 120 feet or so and wait a couple of minutes. It took us about 10 minutes to grab a couple for the smoker. I'll try to attach a few pictures.. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)

  6. My buddy Fred Forsythe has been heading up a weekend in July where he and others offer a free weekend fishing trip to combat wounded veterans for the past five years or so. I know he's always looking for volunteers. Go to his site at castawaycharters.net and click on heroes at the top for info. Thanks, Sluggo (Chris)

  7. We run almost all sticks and spoons.. Once in a while we'll drag some harnesses, but they attract the white bass so badly we seldom run them. As already mentioned.. The front hook gets removed  and on the Renosky's..the remaining hooks get changed out. I love their Stickbaits but hate their hooks! Our best producing spoons are the NK28's in watermellon..tipped with a piece of crawler. As for speeds.. We seldom hit 2 mph..usually closer to 1.5. Like everyone, we have our slow days..but we always seem to have done as well or better than most when we get back to the launch. Can't wait to get out there! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)

  8. I used Roemer's for years and loved them..separate tension adjustment for rod and lure. Had to replace a few and found that they no longer have triggers made of metal, they're now plastic. Braided lines wear a grove into the plastic and the line hang up on the release. I've tried both Blacks and Chamberlains and prefer the Chamberlains. Both work fine, but the adjustment seem to work better and holds it's setting better than the Blacks. Either one will work fine for walleye, but I obviously don't recommend the Roemer's. My advice is leave the riggers home and bring more leadcores out, they will out fish the riggers 5 to 1.

I totally agree..except..downrigging is still my favorite trolling method. No "stuff" on the line except a fish once that release goes. I always let my buddy beat me to the 10 color for some reason. As for those junk Renosky's.. Yes..the hooks suck and yes..I've had a couple crack down the center..never had hooks pull out..yet.. But they flat out catch fish!

Sluggo, leader down to 12 lb test and run that spoon 15ft off the ball. It was hard for me to do at first but it works.

I'm running 10# flouro leader on all my rigs. I've tried running shorter leads..but longer ones seem to work better for me. To be perfectly honest..my downriggers are the worst producers in my Arsenal for walleyes. Work fine for everything else, but not for eyes.

Chris if the paint stayed on your stinger spoons :emoticon-0102-bigsmile: how far behind the ball would you run them ? (only kidding I have a bunch) what colors do you like ?

Watermellon is my "go to" spoon color. As for how far back... For walleye, I run everything at least 100' behind the ball.

Thanks again Chris you have been a big help it would be my pleasure to buy your dinner if we meet up ... 35 bucks per man is good deal I like the layout of the place as well  I ran a shake down yesterday on a local lake got a few browns but more importantly the boat ran great !!! July is a perfect time for me we do a 10 day trip to oak orchard (lake O)  the week before  Memorial day every year and I hope to get over to Erie one day for perch but that will be in the buffalo area.. Good Fishing to you !!!

Paul.. dinner certainly isn't necessary, but I'll accept a cold beverage!

Those cabins are beautiful.  If you are ever looking for just a hotel, we always stay at the Theater Motel in Mayville.  Its only a few miles from Barcelona Harbor.  The owner is very nice and we can clean fish on the tailgate of the trucks right next to a water hookup that he lets everyone use.  Only once has there ever been a problem booking it. Oh yeah, he also lets you take all the ice you need for free.  That is VERY helpful when you are fishing in July and August!

This is where we've stayed for years as well.. Although it's in Westfield..not Mayville. It's clean and reasonable. It sleeps two guys per room..unless you're really chummy. There are several good eateries close by..including a great bar-b-que just down the road. And as DJ said.. The ice-maker is a real plus. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)

Thanks guys I looked up the theater motel online the rooms look good the only thing they didn't have on the website was room rates but that's ok I have the number in my phone and address in the gps now all I need is some reports saying its time to fish.... Paul

Paul.. As I recall, the double rooms are about $70/night. If you do call and book there ask for one of the rooms across from the office. On that side there's plenty of room to back your rig right up to the room and leave it hooked up. Plus.. You're closer to the ice-maker. We don't usually start hitting there till July.. Unless my charter buddy out there calls me with some great reports. Hope to make it out three or four times this summer. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)

  15. Shinintimes.. I don't know of any campgrounds or cabins with docking. I know you can dock overnight at Barcelona Harbor, but it's not patrolled or very secure. We stay at a motel about three miles from the launch and drag back and forth. Not a big deal for us. I like the launch and parking much better at Barcelona than Dunkirk, but I'm also more used to it. Let me know if you want any info. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
